TYBA pushes to tap yacht charters potential
Thailand needs to overhaul crucial aspects of allowing superyachts to operate in Thai waters if the country wants to remain competitive in the lucrative industry, says the Thai Yachting Business Association (TYBA).
Thailand, among other Southeast Asian countries, must keep regulations for foreign-flagged yachts clear and simple. Ideally, all departments involved, such as the Revenue, Customs and Immigration, Harbour Department and Tourism Authority, collaborate to deliver a seamless experience,” explains Lies (‘Lisa’) Sol, Charter Broker/Manager at Northrop & Johnson (SEA) Ltd, based in Phuket.

Riverdale Marina Boat Fair Edition 3
The Riverdale Marina Boat Fair is set to return with its third edition from Wednesday the 5th to Sunday the 9th of February 2025. With more than 100 suppliers of boats, boat engines, boat equipment, water sports and services expected to attend both indoors and outdoors.
Preparations are well under way to host the Riverdale Marina Boat Fair #3, a big event for boat lovers that brings together entrepreneurs and boat-related products and maritime activities. All types of watercraft and marine products will be available for viewing including new boats, second hand boats, jet skis, and other water sports equipment.
Phuket eyes boosting superyacht tourism
The Marine Department held a significant meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall on Friday the 19th of July to gain feedback from officials and industry partners in determining what changes in the law were required to help boost the superyacht marine tourism industry.
The meeting was presided over by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, and attended by key figures including Surat Sirisayat, Director of the Ship Registration Standards Bureau, and Phuket Marine Chief Natchapong Pranit.
Thailand Charter Show Special Rates for Bookings Made Before the End of July
The organisers of the Thailand Charter Show have announced special rates for yacht entry fees on all bookings made before the end if July 2024.
The show entry fee for yachts is based on the length overall in metres as per the official yacht registration.
For bookings paid in full before the 31st of July the entry fee for yachts is 1,000 baht per metre. TYBA members get an additional 10% discount.
